Reality Based Steve,

Tennessee Law makers are about to be taken to task by the supreme court, if anyone in law enforcement even tries to enforce this, or if any judge or county clerk denies a gay couple a marriage license on the grounds that this law is in effect. Why is it that the American far right is in such desperate need of a course on the constitution, when they’re supposed to be its biggest supports?

I think the short answer to this question is because they believe that only they reserve the right to obey only the laws they want to follow. They’ve been told by those like Huckabee, Cruz, Gohmert, Staver, and other RW grifters that their religious beliefs matter more than any secular law. If I believed the things they claim to believe and found I couldn’t live with my fellow citizens in the U.S., I’d gather together all like-minded individuals, and we’d pool our money, buy an isolated island in the Pacific Ocean, and establish our own theocracy. This would serve two purposes—-it would allow them to run their government the way they wanted to, and living on an island in the Pacific would give them firsthand experience in dealing with the negative effects of climate change, which I’m quite sure they deny is real.

The “Tennessee Natural Marriage Defense Act” should be called the “Full Funding of the ACLU Act” because of all the attorneys fees Tennessee would have to pay if it ever became law.

And thankfully it wouldn’t hold up at the supreme court, unless the next president appoints some serious wingnuts, and they manage to get through, despite heavy opposition from Democrats.
